Sir Arthur Nicholas Winston Soames (born 12 February 1948), sometimes known as Nick Soames, is a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mid Sussex from 1997 to 2019. He was first elected to Parliament in 1983 for Crawley and sat as a Conservative until 3 September 2019 when he had the whip removed after voting against the government. Soames was Minister of State for the Armed Forces from 1994 to 1997 in the government of John Major. His main political interests are defence, international relations, rural affairs and industry. He is the grandson of former prime minister Winston Churchill.
